Rio Bosque Again Under Attack by Kiewit Constrution

John Sproul reported today that Kiewit has flagged several tornillos and one big cottonwood along the Riverside Canal levee road at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park. John is the Program Coordinator and Manager of the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park.

Kiewit, of course, is the large construction and mining company which is quickly putting up the Border Wall, destroying eco-systems as they go from California to the Gulf of Mexico.

This blog chronicled Kiewit's attempt in January to destroy a rather old and large cottonwood. KTSM's Nick Miller stepped in to save the tree. (Kiewit doesn't mind destroying the environment - just when there aren't any cameras or pesky news people around.)

By the way, Kiewit is also a big mining company. They mine coal. The PR about coal is that it is clean. However, "clean coal" is an oxymoron. Check out the reality.

And see this video showing the damage the building of the Wall wreaks upon the natural environment:

  1. 2 things:

First the fence is being built because of illegal crossings to due mainly drug trafficing. If Americans would stop illegal drug use, the market would cease. Nationals are welcome here, just come over lrgally.

Second, Kiewit is just the contractor, doing business that the government dictates, stimulating the local economies with US Citizens. The Homeland security is spending the money. And this has nothing to do with coal.....

  2. Thank you for reading the blog and for commenting. Please do so again. I mentioned Kiewit as a coal mining company to enhance my point that the work that they do is not always environmentally sound. The idea for the construction of the wall really began in the wake of 9/11. Our fear of terrorist attack bolstered our fear of immigrants - particularly the great number of undocumented workers crossing our southern borders. Like so many of the arguments for controlling terrorism or engaging in the current wars abroad, the justification for the Wall has evolved: anti-terrorist, control of immigrants, control of drug trade, and so forth.

  3. First of all the fence was built by Americans for Americans. The government issued the work order to construct the border fence. The fence is designed with spaces for animals to cross. The fence supported jobs for American in these economic times. Kiewit is a American business that is also affected by the economic times trying to keep Americans employed. So why don't you go back to the drawing board and point the finger at someone else. You cannot blame a company in this day and age for doing what they do constructing work. The fence would of been built regardless if Kiewit built it. You people only find the most negative of things to talk about. Kiewit is a good American company that has employed people for over 100 years building things that you most likely take for granted everyday like the road you drive on. You forget the levees Kiewit fixed after 9/11 or the million other thing Kiewit has built to improve people’s live. You are the type of people that would praise a state for putting a electric light rail in to improve air quality, but would not give Kiewit the recognition for building it. By the way Kiewit is not the only company that built the fence. So call your senator if you have a problem with it do not slander a good company. The fence was designed to help prevent the crossing of drugs and illegal aliens in which cost American Lives and money on a daily basis. If you hate this country so much and the people that work here go live in Mexico. We know that will not happen

  4. The border wall has been an environmental disaster from atart to finish, which is why the Department of Homeland Security had to waive 36 laws (mostly environmental) to buid it. See
