Rumor

This is really more about the built environment. However, since we have been discussing drainage, here goes:

Apparently some of the apartments at the Roderick Artspace Lofts have two bathroom drains - one in the shower and one on the bathroom floor. Reportedly there has been overflow on the bathroom floor drains. Supposedly, this is because those drains were never hooked up to the sewer. The overflow is hurting Fab Lab.

Artspace Lofts is the home of local artists.

Not in the plans? Oversight during construction?

Where were the City of El Paso engineers and inspectors?

  1. I hate to break this to you Mr Tolbert, but you're blaming the wrong people in this situation. There is no way the City could afford to have inspectors who went through every nook and cranny in a building to make sure it was built right. At best they make a cursory inspection, make sure the paperwork and fees are in order and move on to the next project on their list.

That may sound bad for the City but that's exactly how builders like it. The fees stay low, the inspections are done quickly and they can be in and out in no time. Unfortunately this means that sloppy or unscrupulous companies (in this case probably the plumbing company) can easily miss things they shouldn't or actively cut corners where no one will see. Alternately the GC or their CM could be to blame if they didn't properly inspect the building themselves (which is best practice in the construction industry because those folks usually have a financial interest in making sure there aren't any problems).

Bottom line this post feels like you're just trying to attack the City and it sounds like a case of sour grapes. The City had minimal input or control into the building's construction (and again that's how the builders like it) so blaming them is completely off base.
